Wind turbulence 2015 Crossrunner
on: July 25, 2015, 01:49:57 PM
Test rode the 2015 crossrunner, brilliant apart from wind turbulence which was too bad to ignore. I am 5ft. 10 with shortish legs and a longish body and my head was right in the turbulent area. Nobody else has commented on this according to the salesman ( very helpful fella' at Newcastle Motorcycles). Has anyone been affected ( too great to ignore) and did an aftermarket screen cure it ? My 1997 Fireblade is much better, there's progress ! (Yes I know it's a different riding position, style of bike etc). Any info gratefully received, Cheers Gents

Noticed that MRA do a Varioscreen , had one of these on both of my Varaderos and they helped a lot. Anybody got one ?
Cheers

Hi I am 5ft 9 with shortish legs / longish body too and I also find I get quite a lot of turbulence at head height.

I have noticed that leaning forward slightly and lowering my head just a few inches improves the situation a huge amount so I reckon that either a slightly taller screen or vario type screen would definitely do the trick for me.

Having read the comments on screens for the earlier model Crossrunner I will be buying the Pyramid screen as  soon as funds allow.

In the mean time I am afraid it is ear plugs every ride and more moderate speeds for me until I get the new screen.

Apart from the screen and a quite firm saddle though, it is a stunning bike so don't be put off just by the screen.

I test rode the Tracer and Tiger as well (both excellent bikes), but I still chose the Crossrunner over them both.

I am 1.85 m (about 6ft ?), and have the same issue. The standard screen is too low and small. At the moment I attached an extra spoiler to extent the screen which helps.
Next week I hope to test the Powerbronze and Puig screens. Will report in the Accessories section of this forum.

Thanks for the replies Gents. I'll look forward to reading the screen reports when they come online

Hi All

I'm 1.72 (don't what that is in old money). I too found the stock screen too short. Bought the Powerbronze - light tint touring screen and it's perfect.

Cheers
Pete

Cheers for the report Pete.

I plumped for the Pyramid screen and the Palmer adjuster but am still not 100% happy.

Some of the turbulence I still get seems to come around the sides of the screen rather than over the top.

Is the Powerbronze significantly wider than standard as well or just taller?

Cheers for the reply Pabwon.

Do you think the deflectors would be likely get in the way if hand guards guards are also fitted?

I have just fitted the hand guards and would not really want to remove them.

There is nothing of the guards at the rear of the grips but the ends do protrude an inch or so further than the standard bar ends.
