Wow, that's some going. Don't know the cost but will be pricey as valves will need checking, expect somewhere north of £400

My dealer quoted £700+ for 16000 mile service ....another honda main dealer said ..we have never ever found a vfr that needed valve adjust at 16k so will do for 250 ...stamped .. ..confusing ..and all the more so when my bike is just 2 years old and only done 12000 miles ...I opted for 2 year standard service £250 ..after all there is no warranty after 2 years anyway so what's to loose !?

I am coming up to 10000 miles on my 2016 CR so getting myself in the mindset for having the major valve check done in a few months time . However I have read and watched so many blogs and articles concerning this and nearly all have said NO adjustment was needed and the bill to have this checked is extortionate. I have changed the oil and filter 3 times in 10000 miles so I know that the oil has always been good and at 6500rpm the vtec kicks in really well so I think Im going to save my money when the time comes . It would actually be cheaper to buy a complete second hand engine than have the valves checked by HONDA

IMHO how many times during normal riding are the VTEC valves engaged certainly during enthusiastic acceleration or scratching your favourite B road I would suggest that if he main valve clearance is good there is no need to check the VTEC ones, this follows the thinking from other vfr forum's sharing the same engine and would suggest that 50,000 is nearer the mark.

The first 3 16k services on my 08 Vtec did not show any out of limits, but it's still a risk. As long as you understand that, you should be able to make a sensible decision.
98 VFR800 - 130,000 miles, 08 VFR800 - 76,000 miles, 15 VFR800X - 44,000 miles (all sold)
14 VFR1200 - 20,000 miles
18 VFR800X - 16,000 miles
01 VFR800 Fi-1 - 9000 miles

further to my prev post: at 13k i had a general (annual) with new tyres too ..service by a local non dealer but trained honda set up then a month or so later after a 6000 mile tour the valve check 16k with change of chain and sprockets and tyres again at 19k neither of which cost what the main dealer asked and it runs like a bird now ..just passed 20000 miles today .. whatever they fid works for me!
my guy said .. despite possibly not needing adjustment if Honda revommend it .. they should know .. do it ! ... but find a mechanic that knows vfr’s
