Water inside screen & Heated Grips

Hi Just a wee follow up from my last concern about water and scratches inside the display panel. To me it seemed like inferior screen Issues.   I had the 2nd replacement screen fitted on Saturday and it's seems ok so far but still waiting to see what it's like in the rain after having marks inside the 1st replacement after  a 20 mile wet run last month and not used the bike until Saturday to take to the dealer. Also I had the headed grips checked as they are not hot enough and was informed they seem to work ok. Today Monday 27th my 20 mile trip to work at 07.00 outside temp 5c and dry with grips on no 5 setting for the 20 miles still no heat through my gloves. This to me isn't suitable given the fact I also have Givi hand guards fitted that should stop the wind blast now unsure the next step other than another letter to Honda UK

I have noticed condensation inside my display panel too but have not followed it up yet.

The hand grips on mine warm up quite well and I haven't needed to use above setting 4 on my early morning or late night commutes so it sounds like something is wrong with them if you don't feel it through your gloves.

Mine don't seem quite as hot as the Oxford grips I fitted on my previous bike but on the other hand they are a lot slimmer and more comfortable to hold.

Hi Greenie. My concern about the screen has returned after only 4 days since the replacement, after using the bike to work mon tues, approx 90 miles today after a short rain shower lasting 15 mins I put the bike in the garage and after carefully drying the screen I have again seen the start of the marks/ scratches on the screen I'm unsure if the problem is inside or out but it doesn't look right. Will hope to get a 2nd opinion tomorrow and I fear I have to phone the dealer and another letter to Honda Uk. This issue is beginning to wear me down and concern me as to the Quality of the parts being used. This is my 4th Honda and I have never had any problems with my previous bikes.

    Hi

    That's not good.

It does, as you say, make you wonder about the quality of the parts.

Honda always had a great reputation for the finish of their bikes but It does seem they are letting things slip a bit nowadays.

I know for example there have been complaints about the new Africa Twin with the switch gear letting in water and also with the spokes corroding etc.

Good luck with the dealer, but if the parts are suspect it may be a while before it gets sorted.

I've just had my screen & heated grips replaced under warranty - The bike is just over 1 year old and has done 3500 miles.  The new grips are no better than the old ones.  I'm waiting to see what response my dealer gets from Honda regarding the replacements.  The new screen is OK so far but has only seen rain once so I'll have to wait and see...

Hi. Ref the screen issue it's now less than 2 weeks since the 2nd replacement dash screen has been fitted and I'm still not happy so going to write to Honda again and inform the dealer, there has been no water getting inside the screen as before but the appearance of scratches are back and it's impossible to know if it's inside or out. To me it appears a poor quality cheap screen so will wait on a response again. On the Heated Grips on full power they are at best "better than nothing" but far short of being seen as meeting the required quality that Honda motorcycles were renowned for in the past.

My dealer told me a couple of weeks ago that Honda said they had a solution.

    I've heard nothing since.

My bad, I meant a solution for the heated grip issue.

Hi reference the Heated Grips I hope so I will be asking again for an update on them. Also will see what they say about the screen issue, no just washed the bike today with warm soapy water etc and just as I was washing the front rocket cover some of the paint just came away ( Fender extender fitted at 0 miles) so will be informing Honda. The bike only has approx 1200 miles and carefully ridden and looked after. 4th Honda and the only one that's caused me problems.

Some of the case covering is coming away around the oil level glass on mine. Next time it is in, I shall mention that too.

    Are Honda cutting corners again?
