    screen flies off

Picked up a 2015 CR Friday, did a 200 mile ride today - all road types without problems until almost home.  Dropped speed to enter 40mph area and the screen detached and hit my head  :005: Luckily managed to catch it and pull over.  Screen (Givi) was OK and the screws were still in the rubber mounts.  There had been absolutely no earlier warning/wobbling etc.  Has this happened to anyone?

I changed my screen and fitted a Palmer adjuster using the original fittings and have had no issues in 4000 miles.

Maybe the screws were over tightened distorting the rubber mounts when the screen was fitted.

Glad to hear it did not cause a serious accident though.

Thanks, that's what I thought.  There's only three likely faults:
    1. this is an issue with the fixings (in which case many people will have had this happen)
    2. only Givi screens are affected (which could be because of the larger size and forces exerted)
    3. it's a one-off (incorrect fitting)
    Option 3 being most likely.
I'll talk to the dealer and see what they say, meanwhile I'll follow up on the Palmer adjuster - sounds useful.

Good catch - have you spoken to the England cricket selectors?

The 2017 model comes with an adjustable screen now, maybe worth a look if not happy with third party one, just a thought.  You can have a look at one in the dealers and see if it will be right for you?

Yes I was really pleased with this one - dented the blow of not having the Akrapovic pipe included in the price.

Dealer happy to replace fixings and refit screen.  Have got some Palmer adjuster brackets and will have those done at same time.  Interestingly, neither Givi nor Palmer (and maybe others too) supply replacement rubber mounts but expect you to utilise the existing ones, I would have thought that any part designed to deform during installation was a single-use item.  I guess I'm going to be rather paranoid about the screen integrity for some time yet.

As I said I reused mine without problem and have had the Palmer adjuster and a slightly larger than stock Ermax screen on for over 4000 miles.

I imagine there is quite a bit more weight and forces acting upon the fittings than there were with the stock screen alone and I don't hang around on occasion, of course within speed limits :007:

I was very careful not to overtighten them and distort them during fitting though and have just inspected them and they still look fine.

I guess replacing them is a good idea now they have failed as it is possible permanent distortion has occurred.

Let's hope you were just unlucky and all is well from now on.

I've had the similar problem with givi screen but it happened a couple of hours after pigeon hitting screen so I put it down to that but when I refitted it used longer bolts and secured it with locking nuts
