C&S Replacement Procedure Question
on: December 27, 2017, 07:12:56 AM
I am replacing the c&s on my 2015 Crossrunner. The engine is a development of the 02-13 6th Gen Vtec and I replaced the c&s many times on my 08 model so figured the replacement procedure would be the same. Both the 800F & 6th Gen Vtec Service Manual says that the clutch fluid should be drained and the clutch hose oil bolt & washers should be removed before removing the clutch slave cylinder to access the front sprocket. I never drained the system on the 6th Gen so can I assume I don't have to drain it on the Cr?

Hi Skids, I've changed the gearbox sprocket on many bikes over the years and never found a need to drain the hydraulic fluid. Without going to the garage to check my 16 CR I would suggest that providing there is sufficient free play in the clutch fluid hose then carry on the way you have in the past without draining the line. Maybe need to hold the slave cylinder back out of the way by using a tie wrap will help.

Yeah, that's what I figured.

Usually clamp the pushrod too.

Chain & sprockets fitted but is there a torque value for the 6 bolts that hold the rear sprocket on? Can't find anything in the service manual.

Sorry Skids, I have no info on the bolt torque; but can I ask how many miles you have put on the bike?  I remember changing the C&S on my old FiX just once at 40K - and then only from a sense of obligation rather than any obvious wear.  Is the CR harder on components?

No, but I guess my winter riding has been. Despite regular washes.

I've bought a Cobbra chain oiler which I'll be fitting before she goes back on the road next week.

Just over 16k.
