Hi guys, I want to buy some Michelin pilot road 5's. But unsure whether to get the GT versions
Also if a few of you could give me an update on how long these tyres are lasting. Thanks in advance

Good evening Teapot68
If you are planning to ride two up with luggage for most of your journeys then I would go for the GT version. If you are riding solo then I think the regular PR5 would suffice.
This image, if I can load it, shows a regular PR5 after 3500 miles two up with luggage. Once I was home went around to SMD tyres intending to have my default tyre fitted a PR4. After a bit of a chat decided to fit a PR4 GT, I've never regretted that decision getting 6000+ miles two up and luggage. The profile of my PR4 GT remain consistent.
So I would hope the PR5 GT to be no different, my next tyre choice.

I'm guessing that once established in a bend, they were quite grippy, but the transition to and from the lean must have .....interesting!

The main reason for the unusual wear pattern was the carcass of the tyre was't rigid enough to support the a fully loaded bike for the weeks we were away. Even after putting a few more PSI in the sides of the tyre sagged a bit, a bit like dragging your ass along road
, as it was explained to me. Also the roads at the top of Norway are much like the ones in the north of Scotland, quite abrasive to tyres.
If you plan to do quite a few miles touring two up, then I'd pay the bit extra for the GT.

On another tyre post, I had the same issue with the OE Scorpions.
Not really a fault of the tyres, I took the first owner's word that EVERYTHING is fine - stupid me.
The wear pattern on the front tyre is the same as the photo above,N the rear is the opposite.
Low tyre pressures - 24F/27R is the suspected cause.
When returned to handbook pressures - 33F/36R - the transition was, as mentioned above INTERESTING!
Once on the side tread - hung on beautifully.
Love the flickability compared to my R1200RT 😉

So I would like to thank everyone for the advice. I've decided to go for the pilot road 4GT for just over £200
