Scorpion Trial 2s - really that bad?

I've been looking through several threads (thought I'd start a new one rather than dig up an old one); my CR has come with what look like brand new Scorpion Trail 2's fitted. There seems to be a consensus these aren't the best tyres . . . but are they really that bad? It seems like a costly exercise to swap out brand new tyres for others . . . I'm not a hero-peg scraping type rider, but obviously nobody wants substandard grip levels!

    cheers

I found them quite ok in the dry, to be honest. It was wet weather performance that I was less enamoured with. Whilst they did apparently grip the surface, they always failed to let me know. No feel at all.

I ran them through the spring and summer until the front was wrecked at about 6k miles and replaced with Pirelli Angel GTs which improved matters, but not as much as I'd hoped. I ran those until a rear puncture demanded a new tyre, then replaced them with Metzeler Z8s. Good tyres, although I'd try the Roadtec 01s next time.

Cheers. So it's feedback rather than outright grip that's more the issue by the sound of things? Interestingly I did get that feeling a bit going around a wet (and greasy) roundabout on the test ride, but given they were brand new tyres and the temperatures were sub-zero I assumed it was conditions-linked.

I was really surprised how hard I could push the original Trail 2's in the dry but not the most confidence inspiring tyre in anything other than dry conditions. Personally I never felt they were anywhere near bad enough to change them before they're Donald though. I've had Roadtec 01's on for 4000mls since, they seem to suit the bike well and definitely have far more "feel".

I’m in the Same boat though I think I have Trail 1’s fitted on mine. As they’ve only done 3500 miles will ride until they’re done then switch for Roadtec 1’s which seem to get the forum vote.

I’m not riding pegs down at the moment as there’s too much filtering going on but so far I actually have no cause for complaints with the Pirellis wet or dry.

Earlier this year I purchased a 2015 CR with 750miles on clock wearing the original OE Scorpion rubber
I then added 5k all touring miles including two trips to Scotland
The issue is the front tyre was scrubbed, the shoulders were gone
There was probably 2k left on the back tyre

Tyre pressure was as book 36f ...42r

I was quite surprised how soon the tyres lasted

    I hope this helps
    Cheers

PS I changed the tyres for Michelin PR4s and the bike was transformed

I didn't intend to knock them out so quick  :006:
Bought the bike end of June and they were shot by the end of Sept .
In May I had  serviced and replaced the tyres on my olde GS and when I came home from a Trip to the Black Forest and the Voges I decided to get a CR as my olde GS was getting hard work keeping up with modern bikes
The CO obviously  wasn't too happy as he said you have just spent a fortune on the GS and now your buying another bike
I said " don't worry I won't have to splash out anymore cash on the bikes until next year  "
Needless to say she was less than amused when in Sept when I have to put new tyres on the CR so I can get away to Wales
The CR just wanted to be ridden and I managed to get a couple of extra trips in  :152:
    That's why we still ride
