    Shock Tube

I've fitted an R & G Shock Tube to the rear shock on my bike. The fitting process was awkward but worth the aggro as the Tube is doing an excellent job of keeping the shock clear of water and road crud which the hugger wasn't successful at.

Thanks Corringdon . . . it must have been an awkward job, since access to that rear shock is poor. I also fitted an R&G shock tube to my previous bike and it always kept the chrome shaft and oil seals nice and clean. Well worth considering.
Who in their right mind would design a vehicle that falls over when it stops?

Plenty of skinned knuckles and curses, Scimitar, but well worth it in the long run.

I'd read that shock tubes can cause overheating of the oil and degradation of the seals.  :027:

I've ridden over 1/4 million miles on VFRs through every winter since 2011 and never had the need to protect the shock.

    Just sayin'.  :031:

Good point, Skids, as the shock is rather close to the rear downpipe. Next time I go out for a ride I'll have 'feel' to see how warm it gets. Can you remember which journal mentioned the heating problem? Do you ACF 50 your shock?

It wasn't one specific article, it was several over the years. If it's a concern, try phoning one of the bike suspension specialists.  :027:

    I do spray it, yes.

Thanks, Skids. I bought the Shock Tube whilst scanning through R & G's web pages. Naturally they'd praise its merits as they are trying to sell it. One thing you can't beat is experience and you have it with a quarter million miles under your belt. I'll take the Tube off and ACF 50 the shock. I suppose I bought it on impulse as I'm now a dry weather rider only.
