CENTRE STAND

Have just purchased a centre stand for my new 2020 Crossrunner.

Having read a number of threads regarding the fitting of it it appears that you either have to drop the exhaust or shorten the bolt in order to fit the right hand side of the stand. However I have been told by a Honda dealer that they would only charge £45 for fitting (although the earliest they can do it is end of August!!) i.e it would take less than 1 hour. The dealer stated that the exhaust does not need to be dropped but it can be just pushed up out of the way.

Anyone had any experience of this when fitting a centre stand to their Crossrunner?

Also would be obliged if anyone has the torque settings for the centre stand bolts.

I had mine fitted by the dealer when I bought it as, apparently, it's a pig to fit at ground level. £45 to fit it sounds good and will definitely eliminate extremely high blood pressure.

Since when did Honda drop the centre stand as standard equipment?? I'm clearly out of touch... What else have they dropped from the original mark 2 (2015/2016) model?

The centre stand has never been standard fitment on either mk l or ll models. Honda UK supplied a centre stand as part of the rider package supplied with 2015 models, this package is no longer supplied. Also part of the rider package for the 2015 model was the rack and top box & TomTom sat nav, again no longer supplied.

Not fitting a centre stand when they can is the 2 wheel equivalent of not giving you a spare wheels as standard in a car.

I guess some riders don't want the extra weight and reduced ground clearance.

There aren't many bikes that have them fitted as standard these days. Royal Enfield is one that springs to mind. Personally I won't buy a bike that can't have a stand fitted; I had a side-stand only bike once. Never again, a complete PITA for chain adjustment, wheel removal, general maintenance eg head bearing checks etc. I know you can use paddock stands but I can't be bothered with that. As I don't do track days I can't say that ground clearance is much of an issue despite my preference for making progress on road riding.

I fitted a centre stand to my CR, but rarely use it.  As I have a gravel driveway I find that an Abba stand is far more secure and easier to use for the above jobs than the centre stand.
