It is with sadness, surprise and irritation that I have to sell my CR and move on to something smaller. I have been dogged with recurring back problems and arthritis flare-ups in both hands, which is making man-handling the CR too daunting for me now. I still love riding the bike when it is on the move but feel too vulnerable now at standstill. I did not see this coming! I have just spent over £1k upgrading the suspension to Nitron rear/RaceTech front. I really did think this bike was a 'keeper'. But the dilemma of my small old physique and other constraints means that I have to face reality.
So, I am giving the forum advance notice before placing advertisements on eBay and AutoTrader.
I'll post a few pics soon but briefly this is the description:-
First registered 06/05/2016 on a 16 plate.
Akropovich
Quick shifter
Centre stand
Givi crash bars
Metzeler 01 tyres
EvoTech radiator guards
Tutoro automatic chain oiler
Current mileage = 5860
Extended Honda Warranty including breakdown (12 months remaining)
MOT extended to December 2020
Williams ceramic paint coating
Metallic red R305
Honda Top Box
This bike had only done 1800 miles from new when I bought it a year ago.I have done 4000 miles and have changed the oil again, since its full service by Doble Motorcycles prior to the start of my ownership in June 2019. Needless to say, it goes link stink. Judging from similar bikes on AutoTrader, I think mine is worth £6800 all day long, especially considering the excellent suspension upgrade.
That's it. Spread the word or PM me

Gutted for you
It seems someone's going to end up with an excellent example tho.
Good luck with your next set of wheels
If you can pick your nose whilst riding, you've clearly forgotten your helmet!

I am gutted to be faced with having to change the bike. In my opinion nothing beats Honda build quality and reliability. But their smaller bikes are underpowered and still fairly heavy. The other Japanese bikes are reliable but not built quite as well made as Honda. The MT-07 is still well rated in the mags, although I had one in the past and finished up with Maxton suspension and ECU remap to make a proper bike out of it. The gearshift/clutch was always crude and clunky. Built to a price.
Italian bikes are usually too heavy, expensive etc. My legs feel cramped on the Triumph Street.
I will be revamping my 'tick box'. My most important feature has to be lightweight and low centre of gravity. Other features, like weather protection, will have to take a back seat. If I can stretch to new, then warranty should compensate for inferior reliability and build quality.
I still ride in a positive spirited way so I would not consider a bike that could not accelerate and accomplish rapid overtakes. Power to weight ratio is the key. I have arranged a test ride on a KTM790 Duke, 169kg dry (thats over 70kg less than the CR), very low CofG, compact upright riding position Maybe that will have more ticks than crosses in my criteria boxes.

So sorry to hear the news, Scimitar. We're about the same age but I have the advantage of height and weight and, touch wood, I don't have any joint or muscle problems yet. The KTM Duke 790 is a fine machine, a bit odd looking and the build quality of KTM machines is not what it used to be. Nevertheless it is a fine bike.

Hi 'ripsi' and Guys
I sold my CR within six days of advertising it on eBay, to a chap that has had VFRs before. He has since contacted me, glowing with satisfaction and love for the bike. It has gone to a good home.
After test riding a KTM 790 Duke my decision was easy. I now own a 2020 registered (2019 model) and am delighted with it. The performance and ease of manoeuvring is amazing and will enable me to continue motor cycling for a few more years, despite my back problems.
Kind regards to all

Great news that you've found a bike that you can continue to ride.
All the best and don't feel you need to leave here!
