intently looking for a crossrunner to buy. A little worried about a review I have just read which said the 16K service needed for the vtech valves. Can cast £800. Is this right ?

Honda changed the schedule for valve servicing, now done at 24000 miles. It's a big job as bike needs a lot of dismantling  so is expensive, more so at a Honda dealer than an independent. Great bike tho  :152:

    Thanks stubax.
    That relieves some worries.
Just had a test ride on a 17 plate 8800 miles. Silky smooth engine and box
    Cheers

Some folk don't bother with the first one, even at 24k.

If you are half-decent with a spanner, you could save a lot of that money by doing the rest of the 24k yourself and just getting the dealer to do the valve shim check; it's only oil/filter, air filter, coolant and brake/clutch fluids plus a load of inspections so relatively easily doable.

    Hey Skids,
Yeah I'm confident with a spanner and always do my own oil, filter, plugs, air, sprockets, chains changes all fine with that. Would make sense to leave the "heavy spannering" to proper mechanics though. Happy with the 24K interval, I'll probably only do 20K in 4 years... must rectify that.

my last vtec done 48k miles when i sold it without valves ever being done and was still going good.i've heard of bikes with double that amount still going well without valve service.cam chain tensioners are a weak point, the right side one prone to go as bike leans to left on sidestand so oil a bit slower to get there.changed twice on above bike.

    Thanks Motoman.
I'm getting the general consensus of opinion here that I over thought / worried this issue. Went on a little test run on a '17 plate on Saturday, fella in the shop said something similar.... all good then. Cheers.
    Think ill be committing tommorrow......

    Hi,
Just for my records, when mentioning a distance, I presume you mention all off them in Miles(by default) right ?

The Brits do yes. There's no site rule. Perhaps we should all specify when we mention distance.  :027: :031:

Not sure if we have any Yanks on here.
