    Advise please

Viewed a couple of CR’s today.
A 12,000 mile example. The engine sounded spot on, but the forks were showing signs of corrosion and some other cosmetic issues. Full service history. £4,800 2012. Standard scabby front rocker cover and other corrosion.
The second one is 24,000 miles £4,249
Only one stamp in service book at 5,300 miles. Record of seized brakes at same mileage. Engine sounded a bit lumpy and rattly at tickover.
Dealer is considering wether they will service shims and balance throttle bodies, replace chain and sprockets and discs. Forks are ok, brakes a little wooden feeling. Also may be serviced. Rocker cover also scabby. Standard I presume.
My question is, do badly balanced throttle bodies make the engine noisy? Or should I walk away and look elsewhere.
If it was fully serviced and sounded sweet afterwards, it could be a great bike.
Seems to ride nicely and engine pulls hard at 7000rpm. Smooth, comfortable and I didn’t really want to get off.
Can’t seem to upload a video of the engine noise.

Sounds like both bikes have been used year round... What's your budget? If it stretches to a grand more then you will probably find a mint low-ish miler or one with extras with higher miles..I would keep looking as there are some great bikes out there.

    Good luck!

    Hi Jonny

That’s the way I’m leaning having slept on it.
There’s one for £4900 with 10k, full history, luggage, screen, centre stand, heated grips, all original parts, Arrow can, looks immaculate. It’s a long way to travel, so I’m asking seller to tell me if there’s anything that might disappoint before I travel.
Might be the one. Fingers crossed.

The rocker covers can go manky; the lacquer peeled on my first one, under warranty and Honda refused to make it right.  :023:

I used to balance the SV's routinely at least every 4k miles on 98 and 08 VFRs and it definitely made them run smoother at lower revs but my understanding is that from the 15+ Crossie model onwards, the SV's are factory sealed and not adjustable. Certainly I haven't balanced them on either of mine over the whole 55k+ miles I've ridden them. Strange that the dealer thinks they are adjustable, unless I'm wrong which is totally possible.  :027:

I tend to agree with JT; there are plenty of Crossie's come up regularly in superb condition with full service history (600, 8k, 16k etc) so unless you are pressed for time, you might consider waiting.

edit: you posted whilst I was typing (slowly, obvs  :008:). Sounds like a much better bike.

Cheers Skids. Good info. It’s a triumph dealer so that’d explain it. I don’t want to buy something I’m always worried about it having been neglected.
Think I’ll get my deposit back and look elsewhere. This other one really does look like the one. It has a fender extender and the exhaust headers and clamps are literally gleaming. Worth the extra hassle and money I think.

    Hi Stubax

    Interesting.
Now I haven’t done much research into the MkII. I have seen a lot of complaints about moisture entering the console / display.
Is this something that is an issue on all of them? Is it fixable? That would drive me nuts.

I’ve just agreed to buy the Mk 1.
Sorry Stubax. Good luck with the sale.
It must be the nicest one out there. All black too.
