    Screen extension?
    on: November 24, 2021, 09:17:31 am

So I find the stock screen on my 2019 CR (in the uppermost position) to be very good, but at motorway speeds I still find the top of my helmet gets the airblast and increases noise quite a bit. If I dip my head down an inch or so everything goes quiet and calm, but it's not practical to do that in reality because it's going to be uncomfortable as it's not a natural position.

Do those screen extensions you see on GSs and the like work? If so, is there one that's recommended for our bikes? I assume the stock screen can cope with the added strain one of those would put on it at motorway speeds?

    Cheers. :002:

Not sure about those particular screen extensions but I did fit a adjustable Givi Airflow some years back for touring. Fully extended it cought too much wind, particularly strong side wind natural & passing road trains making control at speed over 110kph a handfull. Half height not so bad. I ended up removing the top section & now just use the bottom for the happy medium. Seems a bit better than stock for me @ 5'10. I assume honda did wind tunnel tests for average size person whatever that may be & helmet choice also seems a big factor, at least to me anyway.
    Just my experience for consideration🍻

Hi ThunderGuts, i can't comment on the screen extensions you mention as I don't have one. When I got my xrunner, i only had the standard and was really bothered by the buffering and noise. I managed to get a tall givi screen in the hope of a cure. I did a little bit but not to the extent I hoped for. With it on, like Haddo, it made the bike feel unstable with speed and winds. Almost acting like a sail. I then went back to the original screen with a set of palmer adjusters bought off here. With them set at the highest setting, it was better again but still noisy. Which leads me to what I've got now. The tall screen with the adjusters. I must say I wish I'd tried it first. Next to no buffering or wind noise. With the screen being adjusted to leave a gap between it and the top of the lights, it must make the flow of air run smoother and not act like a sail. Hopefully you find what works for you as there doesn't seem to be one solution fits all.

More or less the same here; palmer adjuster and givi airflow does the job for me.
    Stop making sense

Cheers all for the responses. I am due a new helmet next year anyway so might get that first and see if it makes any difference, if still uncomfortable I'll look back into this again as it sounds a bit more involved than just bolting an extra onto the existing screen!

I'll have to give these Palmer adjusters a try. The Givi Airflow did offer excellent bug protection while touring. Getting hit in the neck by grasshoppers @ 140kph stings.
    🍻for the tip guys.

MRA VARIO for me. Works great and lots of adjustments to suit. and also has option of clear or smoked, the latter matching my matt black CR perfectly.

I am running a MRA Vario on powerbronze adjustable screen brackets , works well for me as super adjustable for various  weather situations

    I hope that helps

I'm running a powerbronze screen with a chinese £17 deflector on top. Works just fine and no issues at all. It's been tested to at least 3 figures (closed circuit, professional rider, don't try this at home) :-)

I did put all new screen fixings in though, as on my 15 plate they were getting a bit tired.
