Hesitation When Starting

My 2017 bike has developed a hesitation when starting. It turns over, then stops turning over momentarily, then turns over again before firing up. It doesn't do it every time but it is annoying. The battery is fine so it's not that.
Can anyone shed any light on this please.

Battery needs to hold at least 12.8v upon charge under its dying.

Battery is a Yuasa YTZ12S, I put the C-Tek on it and it immediately went green and stayed there for hours. I have a spare battery to the same spec as this and will try that to see if it makes a difference.
If it doesn't then it's not a battery problem.

Doing a bit of research on the forum, it seems that this has come up before on this thread
https://www.honda-crossrunner.com/index.php?topic=2325.0
Was there any final solution or just accept it as a "characteristic" of the bike?

Hello Ken,
my bike is still doing it and I feel ( no proof though ) that this happens more often when the bike is parked on the sidestand, I know its a bit crazy.
I brought it up with my dealer who said its nothing to worry about.
I am curious when it happens on my bike the display resets is that something you obseve as well ?
To give an example, you turn on the ignition, set the traction control to one bar, press the starter, the cranks happen and the display goes off and on, the settings are back to two bars traction control again.
Besides the annoying extra cranks and the display reset I have had no other problems so far.

Hi Lars
I will monitor and let you know.
What year is your bike? Mine is 2017 and on the previous thread Brucey had the same problem on a 2017 bike. Could it something specific to a certain year of bike?

Resets are a symptom of low voltage, common on the early Fi VFRs when they suffered from a poor charging system (reg/rec). If its happening on a more modern bike, then you should do full voltage check (engine off, Idle and 5k rpm).
I'm no electrician but it does sound ominously like a failing battery, possibly due to poor charging.

Hi Skids,
thanks for the input. Unfortunately I don't have any skills or means to troubleshoot anything electrical on the bike so I have to put that on my list. I guess you would have to measure the output voltage at the revs you said with a multimeter and compare it to the expected values ? I watched a youtube video about it but honestly I am useless when it comes to things like that. My bike is due for its big 96K inspection soon so I have the shop check it out they have to take the whole thing apart anyways. If there's a fault I hope its just the battery, its 7 years old by now a ripe age from what I have heard.
Lars
