Running lights

Hi folks,
What are peoples thoughts on the running lights (2016 model)?
I like the look of them but have had three separate instances now where I've been making progress in the left hand carriageway and where someone has seen me, made eye contact then just pulled out. My thoughts are that they see the orange light and assume you are turning into the lane/garage that they are exiting.
Is there a way to switch these off without cutting cables etc?
Would be interested to see what the rest of you think?

My pet hate with these stupid lights. Amber running lights on amber indicators going through a roundabout, and next to bright headlamps. Who comes up with these stupid ideas. Some say its for lane splitting at night? I disconnected front & rewired front off back. Stuff em'.

Interesting.
In 50k+ miles on Mk2 Crossies, I can honestly say I have never been aware of a situation where someone appeared to mistake the running lights for indicators.

I don't like them either, what use are they, theres already a headlight on which we can't switch off, it just looks like an old Cortina with a faulty earth connection that doesnt get full voltage through it. Its just going to confuse other road users who give a casual glance before making a move and thats not good.

There are no other vehicles that know of here in Australia that ave amber on amber therefore instant thought is electrical fault and confusion. I asked a auto electrician and he wondered how it can even be legal here. Anyway hope someone knows a propper fix to get around it.

May be worth asking a dealer, modern vehicles with plug in laptops and coding a lot of things may be possible.

I asked one dealer but he said no, didn't seem that interested though. Shame they are only 2 wire 3 wire you could simply unplug so running front from rear. Flashing a bit faster as expected but no fault warning issiues.
