Wooshy repetitive / cyclical noise from chain / front sprocket area

Say around 40km/h / 25mph -ish. Woosh, woosh, woosh, woosh at around 2 Hertz i.e. twice a second roughly from front sprocket area. I don't mean it does not occur at different speeds, but the frequency will be different, it's speed dependent. At very low speeds it's just not noticeable, you need to be going 40km/h for the noise to be fairly evident.

Took it to garage, test driven, said chain / sprockets ideally to be replaced.

Opinions? Is this perhaps a normal noise? Was chatting to a friend he said his friend's new (non CR) bike does the same thing. (Possibly). Chain lubed makes no difference. Chain seems slack enough, too. Sprockets, visually, rear sprocket at least, looks OK.

    Thanks!

No real point in checking sprocket or chainwheel, check the chain for frozen links or excessive lengthening.

I spoke to the previous owner from new, he said the noise was always there (from new). Unfortunately the wear indicator sticker, if ever present, now is not, so can't at a glance tell if the chain is too long. The bike has done 25k km (15k miles) and it's not wet or muddy here so conditions are pretty kind, would you say that replacement is imminent?

Also, which sprocket wears the most, front, because of extra torque / less teeth?

    Thanks again.

:002:HAD BAD NIOSE ON MY CROSSRUNNER FROM FRONT SPROCKET. BIKE HAD ONLY DONE 6300 MILES. FOUND THAT THE FRONT SPROCKET WAS LOOSE AND SPLINES HAD WORN BADLY. ON INVESTGATION THE RETAINING BOLT AND WASHER WHEN FULLY TIGHTENED TO END OF SHAFT DID NOT REACH SPROCKET BY 020 THOU. CONCLUSION WHEN CHAIN SIZE WAS CHANGED FROM 530 TO 525 THE MAINSHAFT PROTRUSION WAS NOT ALTERED (A530 CHAIN SPROCKET CLAMPS UP FINE)CHECK IT OUT GUYS YOU COULD BE NEXT.
hi guys, just moving from an frj 1300 to a cr hope its a good decision.  tom bass1234

My original chain and sprockets needed replacing at 16.5k, which I thought was pretty poor, but my DID xtreme chain and aftermarket rear sprocket are lasting much better. My mechanic said that a non-Honda rear sprocket is fine but you must use the genuine Honda front sprocket.

Yep, that's because the cush drive is in the front sprocket.

There is a rubber noise dampener on the front sprocket, but the Cush drives are most definitely in the rear hub ( on the Mk1 at least )

I stand corrected, cush drive is indeed in the rear hub.
