Test ride tomorrow - wish me luck!
on:

Greetings from Sunny Chester. I'm hoping to test drive a used CR, first thing tomorrow, at North West Honda (Preston) - reg CR11 VFR - anyone know it?
Tempted by a new one, but including luggage and grips the price is too rich for my blood, plus I prefer the red, which I understand is not available new, although there are a few pre-reg examples around.
Will report back after the demo, with my verdict :-)

Wow what a brilliant number plate.
Gotta be worth it just for that.

Thanks for the replies.
Hoping to rig up a POV cam (DriftHD) to record the test ride.
There seem to be two prices, £400 apart, according to which website the bike's ad is on - all will be revealed tomorrow anyway.
Doing more touring, a task which the Fury is particularly unsuited to with our British weather...hence the interest in the CR.

Just stopped for a coffee on the demo ride...
First impressions are very positive. Smooth power, enough to be addictive. Composed ride, not quite as plush as I imagined, but not bad. A sense of weight at the front end takes a bit of getting used to when leaning and cornering, perhaps down to tyre feel as well. Pretty good wind protection on this blowy day in Preston.
Overall, a really competent fun bike that hits the spot in most areas...
I particularly like the way it accelerates quickly in the mid-range.
We'll see how negotiations go later...

Deed is done!
Was almost tempted with a newer example, but the required extras and price difference was more than I wanted to fork out for, so a well-used example it is then!

Will report back on collection and the first big trip home.

Picked up the bike on Saturday, and already racked up 450 miles in all weathers!
On a long motorway run my speed really crept up - it cruises effortlessly at 90mph
Thankfully it's also nice and smooth around town, with good low speed pickup. The pull and sound from the V4 motor is what makes it such a great bike.
I found the wind protection of the standard screen to be pretty effective as it directs the air away from my chest and over the helmet.
My bike is up on the miles - 12600 - but I wanted a bike specifically in red, with full luggage and heated grips, ready to tour. There were plenty of low miles examples for sale, but adding luggage and Honda grips would have been a hefty premium on top for sure.
As mentioned, it has a rather nice registration number (CR11 VFR - anyone here know it?) , not something I would have paid a premium for, but it all adds to the package.
Northwest Honda were a pleasure to deal with.
Next on the to-do list will be either a Scottoiler-type device, or I'll source a used centre stand. Am I correct in thinking one from a fuel-injected VFR800 will fit?
