BUY A NEW CROSSRUNNER VFR800X
« on: October 07, 2011, 01:46:52 PM »
Hello to everyone!!!!
How are you?...

I'm from Greece and I need to have one of these beasts!!!!
I want to buy a new bike and there is no other than the Astonishing C R O S S R U N N E R   V F R 8 0 0 X
If of course anything goes well in this forsaken country...

I want to ask all the forum members to help me by sharing some personal experience and intel about the bike and overall it's day by day capabilities.
I want to know what you think about it if you own one...

I'm attaching a "personal" image with me and the bike to hear your opinion if this bike is too short for me...
I test ride it not long ago and I was BLOWN AWAY by EVERYTHING i suppose...
Nice riding position, light weight, good torque, brakes, IT JUST ROCKS!!!

Thank you for your time!!!
Have Fun!!!

Hi,
very few using this forum just yet as bike is so new. I've had mine for about 6 weeks and bought it to replace a Suzuki 1250 as I wanted a bike which was a bit taller, more sit up ride position - I am 5'10" and find the sitting postion just right - bars just at the right height and no trouble touching ground. Other bikes like Triumph Tiger800, Multistrada, BW 1200GS, 800gs and others are too high for me as feet not on ground.

Bike is not light - 240 kgs with 5 litres petrol (full tank 21 litres) but does not feel heavy when you are on it and riding slow speed is easy. Screen looks small but gives quite good protection (for my height). The taller screen option might work better for you if your are taller than me but try before you buy.

Great exhaust sound and very easy to ride. The Vtec comes in @ 7000rpm but is not harsh - you just feel a bit of increased speed coming in. Good speed right thorugh 1,2,3 and 4  up to 200kph but tails off in 5 and 6 - so do not expect higher top speed than 200kph (which should be enough?). Am dissapointed with top speed only because media over here said it would be 140/145mph bike but it is not - Honda do not publish speed performance in this country - what do they say in Greece about top speed??

Comfortable for longer distance - I rode 300 miles i one day last week  - no problem.
Bike is good - cost is high compared to some other bikes with same performance - have you been o other bikes to compare??

I'm 6 feet tall (1,83m) I think I might need the bigger screen....
Here in a video for the top speed (go at the end) the review is from a Greek.

Honda VFR 800X Crossrunner MY 2011 - Video Test

The bike delivers 210 kph and that's it.. but a friend of mine that has on told me that the bike can to better in time, he told me that the engine has to work more to be able to give more top speed but I think 210 kph are enough for me...

The cost of the bike is expensive (I know... It a HONDA!!!)
I want to know the cost of the bike's services and the fuel consumption...
I'm not an aggressive driver but if I see clear road I will go for it!!!

I've been on a Yamaha Fazer 600cc on a BMW F800ST and I want to ride the Tiger 1050.

Thank you for your time!!!

Take care about taller screen -it may take wind off your ace but might create more around shouldrs or side of head - increasing wind noise - which could damage ears.Am not sure wat the height minum is for tall screen to be effective - maybe 6' would be OK -bt people ofetn buy taller screens and then have to take them off. Get a ride on a demo with a tall screen on before u buy - it only takes short time for dealer to change the screen.

Its too soon for me to tell you mpg (KPL) . Some people saying it can do over 40/45mpg and some saying 30/40mpg. I think its how you ride it - smooth riding (even at highe speeds) will get best result - I have not yet made my mind up on what I am getting because I only have 1700 miles on clock. Someone on this forum has done a long tour round uk and claimed 50mpg I think - but you may not get that good if your riding is what it sounds like.
I am hoping I an get 40mpg - time will tell.

Servicing is I think more expensive but less frequency than some bikes so may equal out over time. Standard service (oil, filters etc) every 8,000 miles with the expensive valve clearance inspection service @ 16000miles. Annual cost will depend on how many miles per year you ride. Ask dealer for cost information and then work out your annual cost by applying to how many miles you do  - maybe cost will be ok over long term compared to other bikes - also depends how long you keep the bike.

Hope this helps - keep posting if you do buy as we need many owners to feed information in for benefit of all.Good luck.

If you take a look at some of the other posts today they give more information on mpg.
Let us know when you have got one (maybe send us a photo?).

I am happy with my high screen but then I am only 5' 9"

Well what can i say about the crossrunner....

Don't buy one... it encourages you to ride like a hooligan...

I think its the best bike Honda have made in recent years.  i traded my 6th gen vfr for this.  its far more comfortable and so much fun to ride.
To say its a tweaked vfr underneath, they feel worlds apart.

its just brilliant.  i walk away from it grinning like a silly kid and Im 42

fuel economy...not bad but in all honesty, when it puts such a huge grin on your face , your not going to care.

Love that last post Shaunomercy. :047:
Just noticed my recent mpg is down to near 40mpg - but am still grinning.
