    intermittent squeal

    Hi,

I've just completed 700 miles on a 2013 crossrunner. I've noticed a intermittent high pitch squeal, quite loud when the bike is coasting. If I throttle off, the squeal stops, if I throttle back on ( gently) the squeal comes back. I've taken it back to the dealer but when they test rode it, it didn't make the noise, typical! I'm now riding it until it either gets worse or I can pin point it exactly. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced the same. I'll post back when I solve the mystery. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. No not tyre squeal. It's a definite mechanical squeal. I've been trying to narrow it down, was out at the weekend and it made the noise once for a few minutes in 120 miles. When it was making the noise i accelerated gently, the noise stayed the same, didn't get faster or louder. as soon as i throttle back the noise stops, throttle on the noise starts again.Very strange.

I put my phone on record and put it in my pocket, it took 24 minutes of riding but this is the noise it made. I was cruising at around 50mpg, as soon as I heard the noise I kept the throttle steady. If I throttled back the noise stops. Any ideas, I thought water pump? The dealer listened to it but said they would have to hear it for real, problem is, it does it once in a four hour ride, and when the dealer took it out for 20 minutes, it didn't do it. The noise you hear is quite loud, as you can hear the engine and then this noise is over the top of that. Thanks

I might be barking up the wrong tree, but could it be brake squeal, or is it definitely from the body of the bike?

    Hi ThomasD

I have the same issue!  Bike has about 2500 km on, and squeals every now-and-again.  When I shift gears it goes away, but often returns in the next gear.  Have you solved this yet?    :183:

    Thanks
    Callie

car fan belts would squeal when they were too slack and slipped.

Could it be another belt slip, alternator?

it sounds like intake air noise at the air filter....not sure how to access air filter but you could try fitting after market filter like a KandN if its not too difficult...this may create different air flow

as you throttle back you shut the butterflys and change the flow rate

    dosent explain intermittent tho :084:

    anyway good place to start

    hope you get it sorted

    cheers....russ

    Hi All,

Sorry for not checking replies sooner.

I haven't solved it but I did a track day and ever since i haven't heard the noise.

If it has a alternator belt that could make the noise, also the air filter change may be worth a try.

I think I can hear it sometimes but much much quieter, just sounds like wind whistle but the loud noise on the mp3 attached hasn't returned in 600 miles.

I think i may try sending the mp3 direct to honda.

Callie, does yours definitley make the same sound as you can hear on the mp3?

    Thanks

Hi rogerthecat, it's definitley not break squeal, i rules that out by breaking gently while the it was making noise and the fact that the noise doesn't get faster or slower with speed.

    Thanks
